We are happy to spotlight traditional Oaxacan studios and workshops that give you a chance to delve into craft of paper making and binding.
Taller Arte Papel Vista Hermosa (TAPVH) at CASA is a artisanal handmade paper and paper jewelry studio. Founded by Mexican artist Francisco Toledo in 1998 as a cooperative, it works with local community and utilises bark, plants, flowers, cotton, hemp, silk, linen and pieces of shiny mica – renewable resources and local materials free of chemicals. The workshop is working to become a self-sustaining business, where the surplus money is invested in reforestation , nurseries and educational and cultural programs for the community. In addition, there will be an exhibition at the adjoining gallery, featuring artist Kiff Slemmons, titled Kiff Slemmons and Arte Papel Vista Hermosa – Joyeria y Papel: Una Colaboración, which will be on view during the symposium November 11-December 11, 2016.
EATP is a paper-making studio located 10-15 minutes walking distance from Centro de las Artes in San Agustín. The studio, managed by Eric Ramírez Castellanos, offers guided tours and all-day workshops.
